Many in Thailand have heard the name of Jesus. Many have heard of the Bible. And many have a vague concept of a heaven and hell. However, beyond that there is no clear meaning to these terms. The Thai’s will associate them with a “western religion”. Thai religion is not about the heart but about performing ceremonies to achieve your own wants. Ceremonies are performed to manipulate spirits to gain something i.e. warding off evil or inviting blessings or helping ancestors. These are done in an ancient language that few even understand. Consequently, we try to spend time explaining words like salvation, heaven and hell very carefully.
Christmas opens the door for us to give meaning to the name of Jesus. This year our church created a Christmas show with costumes. In addition we developed some banners. There are several parts to the program. First, we will play a couple of Christmas songs, then do the Christmas script. At the end, we use the banners to explain the gospel. We presented our show at children’s homes, in villages and even a leper community. It is a tremendous opportunity to explain the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It also helps establish and build relationships. Thanks for your prayers and support.
